New dashkard: Mac OS X Special Characters

dashkard Mac OS X Special CharactersI’m generally a fan of Apple’s current line of aluminium keyboards, but they do have one downside: The keys don’t have all the special characters you can type using the modifier keys printed on them. While this makes the keyboard less confusing and cleaner-looking, it’s quite cumbersome to go hunting an pecking every time you’re looking for the ~ character, for example.

The dashkard for Mac OS X Special Characters features the more frequently used special characters like currency symbols, math symbols, punctuation and general typography. To keep it simple I didn’t feature every single special character, so if I missed some that you think are important, submit a comment below and I’ll update the dashkard.

Also, this dashkard is based on the US keyboard and other keyboard layouts will differ. If you’d like this dashkard for your specific keyboard layout, please comment below.

This new dashkard is immediately available in the popup menu of the dashkards widget.

  1. Hi Tom — I’m really enjoying dashkards. Thank you for a great program!

One special character which might be worth adding is the Apple symbol itself (Shift-Option-k). Some people like it for signatures and the like, but it is also potentially useful for instructions, e.g. asking someone to go to the menu “ > About This Mac > More Info…”.

    Cheers,

    Justin
